epicsoft/ansible repository overview

Ansible

This Docker image is managed and kept up to date by epicsoft LLC.

Ansible in an Alpine Linux container, based on the official python image - as a CI image or to run playbooks on any machine with Docker. The -plugins variant adds commonly used collections.

Versions

Released through a git tag X.Y.Z, which publishes X.Y.Z, X.Y and X (each also as -plugins) and moves latest. Changes and the contained versions are listed in the changelog.

TagContent
1.1.0, 1.1.0-pluginsexactly this build - use this in production
1.1, 1, 1.1-plugins, 1-pluginsnewest release of that line
latest, latest-pluginsrebuilt weekly from the current Alpine line with the newest packages, also moved by every release

1.1.0 contains ansible 14.5.0, ansible-core 2.21.5, ansible-lint 26.10.1, Python 3.14.8 and Alpine 3.24.2. Python stays on 3.14 for now: ansible-core 2.21 does not run on Python 3.15.

Examples

Example usage for GitLab CI/CD

.gitlab-ci.yml

stages:
  - deployment

TestDeployment:
  stage: deployment
  image: epicsoft/ansible:1.1-plugins
  script:
    - ansible-playbook deployment.yml -i inventory.yml
Example usage for Windows with WSL

A small workaround is necessary under WSL so that the correct permissions can be set.

docker run --rm -it --name ansible \
  -v $(pwd):/in:ro \
  epicsoft/ansible:latest-plugins \
    sh -c "mkdir /ansible \
      && rsync -a --quiet --exclude='.git' /in/ /ansible/ \
      && chmod -R 700 /ansible \
      && chmod -R 400 /ansible/secrets \
      && cd /ansible \
      && ansible-playbook deployment.yml -i inventory.yml"
